This is his story
“I told myself I was finally going to do it - I was going to get to my high school weight. I was tired of not liking what I saw in the mirror; of knowing that I wasn’t living to my best potential and setting the best example. I’ve done the 1UP challenges for the last two years, but I’ve never completed one. I always “fall off” for one reason or another - but not this time. This time I was going to finish it. This time I was going to give it my all.
The number one task was discipline and routine. Discipline to stick to it and not fall off or allow myself to get down and overeat and miss workouts. Sticking to a routine was difficult because as a married man with 3 kids (one is a toddler, help me!), a job, and launching a business to make up for the jobs I lost from Covid - it’s difficult to find time. I owe so much to my wife for helping me with the kids while I go to the garage to work out and not going crazy when I turned the bathroom essentially into my personal locker room.
It felt amazing to see the changes, to feel different mentally, but more than anything else, it felt amazing seeing that I was setting a good example for my children. My toddler started mimicking my push-ups and claps and sit-ups. For the first time, I felt like I was becoming someone new and better, which means the world to me.
I’m thankful for this challenge and it forcing me to challenge myself to push through mental barriers, time constraints and helping me create a better version of myself. I just want to keep going and progressing. I can’t wait to see what the next few months have in store.
