Female Transformation - Shay

We want to give a huge shoutout to our #1upnutrition Ambassador Shay @_shayofficial on an amazing transformation!

This is her story

“My story is a little bit different than most but it explains why I am the way I am and why I do what I do for a living. Unlike most who share their transformations, mine is somewhat the opposite. When I was 17 Years old, I moved to NYC to study performing arts. My Eating Disorder began there. The industry is grueling and forced me to question my worth for many years. Between Diet Culture & the society we live in, unfortunately it’s extremely hard to love our bodies and find value and worth in who we are.

The pictures of me on the left is from the beginning stages of my Journey working to overcome the battle of Orthorexia, Binge Eating Disorder and Bulimia.
I was lost and unsure towards the way I felt about myself and where my life was going. My rock bottom was dark BUT worth it because of where I am now. I’ll never forget the last night I binged at 2 am while my family was sleeping. I looked in the mirror and saw the sadness in my eyes, the lack of hope and desire to even want to live.

That was my shifting moment.

There is so much I can say about how I transitioned into Health / Fitness making it a full time careers, after years of healing my eating disorder and relationship with food, but if you’re where I was years back right now, I want to tell you that there is hope to become the best healed version of yourself. You have to hit rock bottom in order to rise. Lifting weights is not about aesthetics for me. It’s about being strong for the moments I felt weak all those years. It’s about rising when people want to see you fail. It’s about finding the light in a world that can feel so dark.

There is never a right time to start. And your Journey will never be smooth sailing and easy like you imagine it to be in your mind. You’ll take 10 steps forward only to take another 5 back, but the trick is to always keep going. Understanding this is a lifestyle and not a quick fix. Fall in love with yourself and your “why” will always be there. I will always choose myself. I will always choose to #becomebetter"
