Congratulations to our 2024 Summer 8 Week #1uptransformationchallenge Male 4th place $3,000 cash prize winner Bryan Jones @better_than_yesterday91
This is his story:
“My youngest little brother passed away when I was in 2nd grade and it created a weight challenge for me ever since. When he passed away my parents always tried to keep us happy so they rarely said no when I would ask for candy or soda at the store. So with eating all the candy and processed foods even though I was an active kid my whole childhood it was hard to not overeat calories on the daily.
Fast forward too about 24yrs old when life got real and my wife had our first child. It hit me like a train, fast food and junk all the time along with lots working to take care of the family. Weight just started packing on… then my dad passed away in 2017 due to a heart attack at 53 yrs old, that hit me bad I wanted to do better so that I could be healthier for my kids.
At the start of the summer 2024 competition, I got my younger brother on board with me who ended up winning 3rd place as well. Daily we checked in with each other and made sure we were each doing what we needed to do. This was the first time I have ever taken something serious without quitting since I was a little kid.
At almost 33yrs old I wanted my kids to see their dad set his mind to something and win, showing them anything is possible if you put in the work! Some days were better than others but the key is to remember that it was a marathon and not a sprint. The hardest obstacle was staying In a caloric deficit when there is tasty food everywhere especially because I have 2 kids and a wife.
After completing this challenge, I would say the most important things I learned were consistency and accountability. You must stay consistent and hold yourself accountable when you are not doing what you need to but also when you are.
If you are looking to do good in this challenge remember these 3 things: calorie deficit, weight lifting, and cardio. You can not outwork a bad diet! Thankyou 1UP Nutrition for changing my life. The experience was amazing and I feel so proud of myself and my brother!“
