This is his story
“The 2020 January 1UP Transformation Challenge came at a perfect time. I had spent the last year falling to pieces and grieving my pregnancy loss. Food was my comfort. I stopped stepping on the scale when I realized I had gained over 30lbs.
The challenge was the perfect opportunity to make a change. I was motivated and ready to find joy in my body again.
2020 was going to be my year!
Turns out, I had bad timing.
Weeks after starting the challenge, we entered a pandemic. The world was on lockdown and I couldn’t find the strength to persevere.
I failed my first challenge.
A couple months later I dusted off my at-home gym equipment, and signed up for the next challenge. I quit that one early as well. It became my routine. For almost 2 years, I had signed up for nearly every challenge and failed to complete every one of them.
Despite all my failures, I couldn’t give up on myself. “Fall down seven times, stand up eight.”
I signed up for the Fall 2021 Challenge (my seventh time participating). I told myself this time I didn’t have to be perfect, I only wanted to finish. I set my goals and made exercise a priority.
At 2.5 months in, I had hit my exercise goals every day straight. I was proud of myself and what my body accomplished.
Looking back, I’ve learned that failure is a part of success. In fact, I’ve failed more than I’ve succeeded. It’s important to keep trying. There will be times when life throws punches and knocks us down. However, when we persevere through adversity and tragedy it gives us a unique strength.
