This is her story
At 56, I Took My Life Back—One Workout at a Time”
I’ve tried the 1UP Transformation Challenge a few times before, but this time was different. My life had become pretty sedentary over the last few years, largely due to a series of surgeries that left me physically and emotionally drained. My cardiovascular health declined, my weight crept up, and my confidence disappeared. I didn’t even recognize myself anymore.
Looking in the mirror was painful. My face looked round and bloated. I stopped going out, avoided friends, and dreaded running into people I knew—even at the grocery store. I didn’t feel comfortable in my own skin. I felt ashamed. Being intimate with my husband became nearly impossible because I couldn’t understand how he could still want me when I didn’t even want to see myself.
And yet, through it all, he was supportive. He reminded me every day that I was beautiful and strong, but I had to believe it for myself. I didn’t want to be skinny. I just wanted to feel happy, healthy, and proud of who I was again.
So, I made a decision: to try one more time, but to do it differently.
I started small—with beginner Pilates. From there, I slowly built up to working out at home multiple times a day using the 1UP app. I invested in hand weights, a kettlebell, resistance bands, an exercise ball, and even Pilates socks to help me stay grounded (literally). The app gave me everything I needed to succeed, and it was free. I had no excuses left.
I also focused on fueling my body properly. I took MAKE HER LEAN twice a day before workouts and a capful of L-Carnitine 3000 to help convert fat into energy. I drank a gallon of water a day—infused with cucumber, lime, and mint to keep it refreshing—and stuck to a high-protein diet while eliminating carbs, sugar, and processed foods. My goal wasn’t perfection. It was consistency.
And for the first time ever… I finished the challenge.
That alone felt like winning. After everything I’ve been through—the surgeries, the self-doubt, the loneliness—I stood at the finish line proud. I felt stronger, inside and out. I didn’t expect to place in the challenge, but I had already won something even better: myself.
To anyone out there struggling: don’t give up. I know what it’s like to feel lost in your own body. But your journey isn’t over. Take it one step at a time. You don’t have to be perfect. You just have to start.
The 1UP community and this challenge gave me more than physical results. They gave me my life back.
