This is her story
“As a former college athlete, I never had an issue staying active. It wasn’t until I stopped competing that I saw myself fall into a depressed and unhealthy lifestyle. I slowly started to pile on weight year after year.
That’s when my sister urged me to sign up for 1 Up’s transformation challenge. I was a little reluctant at first. It was hard, but I stuck to it and saw changes in my body, mood and confidence each and every day. I ate foods that fueled my body, lifted heavy, went on hikes and started playing sports again.
About halfway through the challenge, I had hurt my back while playing basketball. I thought, ‘this is it, there’s no way I will be able to finish the challenge now’. I felt the overwhelming feeling to just give up.
Then, I remembered why I started this journey in the first place. I wanted to get back to my old, active self who was happy. Instead of giving up, I pushed and pushed. I did workouts that did not involve my back, and I stayed active. I was not going to let one minor set-back stop me from reaching my goals.
By the end of the challenge, I felt like my old self again. I now wake up and am excited to conquer my workout and see how I can push my body every day.
I learned that eating healthy doesn’t have to be about restriction. You can eat what you want in moderation and you can stay active and have fun doing it by participating in activities that you love.
I urge everyone to start his or her fitness journey. It may be difficult at first, but the changes in your body and confidence are worth it. There is no better feeling than waking up comfortable and happy in your own skin. If I can do it, you can too!”
