I joined the 1Up 8 Week Transformation Challenge during a time when I really needed it. I had gone through a tough year filled with loss, and if I’m being honest, I fell into a depression. The gym, something that was always part of my life, became the last place I wanted to be. I gained weight, lost motivation, and just felt stuck.
I had actually joined this challenge once before and didn’t place. But this time, I came in with a different mindset. I told myself, it doesn’t matter if I win or lose… I just want to get back to a healthier place—mentally and physically. That was the real goal.
My schedule didn’t make it easy. I work long days—sometimes 12 hours, so finding the energy to train wasn’t always there. At first, I started slow… about three days a week. Then something shifted. Three days turned into four, then five, and before I knew it, I was training six days a week. Not because I had to, but because I wanted to again.
One thing that really helped me was the clear protein. I’m not even going to lie, I’ve tried other supplements that had me feeling like I swallowed a balloon (and not the fun kind). But this was different. No bloating, no dizziness, just clean energy and recovery. The BCAAs definitely helped me bounce back faster… I started feeling like I had my twenties back. (My knees might disagree, but we’re getting there.)
The biggest lesson I learned through this challenge is that progress doesn’t come from going all-in for one week and burning out. It comes from showing up consistently, even on the days you don’t feel like it. Especially on those days.
And to anyone just starting their fitness journey, don’t rush it. You don’t have to go from 0 to 100 overnight. Build momentum. Give yourself time. This isn’t just about transforming your body—it’s about rebuilding your mindset too.
I didn’t even know I placed 4th until a friend told me. That alone shows how focused I was on the bigger picture this time. And honestly… that means more to me than any placement.
If you’re thinking about starting, this is your sign. You’re not alone, and it’s never too late to get back to yourself.
